  Aspen Parkland

Landscape: Some of Saskatchewan's prettiest parks are found in this region, even though the majority of land in the area has been cultivated. Countryside ranges from continuous forest cover in the northern sections to aspen groves dotting a mostly grassland landscape in the south. Glacial movement through portions of the region created lakes and sloughs that provide an ideal habitat for waterfowl.

A favorable climate allows a wide variety of crops to be grown here.

Wildlife: White-tailed deer is the most prominent species, while coyote, hare, Richardson's ground squirrel and fox are also represented. In addition to ducks and other waterfowl, prevalent birds include house wren, least flycatcher, yellow warbler and western kingbird.

Fish: Northern pike, walleye and perch. Fishing Guide

Hilly landscapes and cool, moist climate produce perfect waterfowl habitat.

Recreation: Moose Mountain Provincial Park is an elevated island of rolling aspen forest featuring a good beach, golfing and waterslides in summer, and cross-country skiing and snowmobiling in winter. Battlefords Provincial Park is big with campers, water skiers, swimmers, boaters and golfers (a well-manicured course) in the summer, and cross-country skiers in the winter. Urban areas: The Battlefords, (pop: 18,000).
